Implementation - teachers

Initial thoughts: How to engage the teachers? Definitely don't rush it, teachers really don't like that.

If we do this right this will be a second-order change challenge and it could be really effective.

Considering our teachers

Trail-blazers - change initiators - the ones who are experimenting anyway. Those teachers are already doing things that are very similar or steps further than what this project is aiming at. They are few and far between though. I think they're all engaged with the project :)

The early adopters - here's an example of an early adopter from Oamaru:
Creation Lessons
The early adopters are quite well along the way too. I don't know who (or if) these people are in the Chch diocese.

The early majority - they want evidence - they want to know it works - these are the ones with the power.  The rest will follow

How to engage the early majority:

1. Present first to the principals - focus on ERO indicators, 7 principles of learning, modern and digital pedagogy. Principles want teachers to engage with this - our project could be a way in.

 2. Put it out to volunteers - to get some student achievement and engagement data.

 3. Set up "training" sessions with teachers - selling points: the student achievement and engagement data we will have gathered, and that this is a supported way in to modern / digital teaching and learning.
Show the collaborative/support website we are developing.
Develop a closed Facebook page for support/comments/sharing on the project for teachers.
Get teachers engaged through doing a flipped learning session as if they were learners using the program.

I don't think teachers in general really understand the SOLO model. It took 18 months of pd and using it across the whole curriculum for teachers to really get it and use it independently in Oamaru. This could be a problem.

 4. Year 7 & 8 teachers use it for a term - with support - the website, a FB group. Give them ongoing and immediate support. This is possible.

 5. Feedback from teachers - really use it for improvement. It will be the end of 2016 by the time this is completed.

 6. Start on the next strand.
